Author: Gary WhiteAt the beginning there was the Opel Antara with two petrol engines and one diesel unit. The petrol engines started with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 141 hp. The 3.2 V6 Ecotec six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.2 litres and 224 hp promised more comfort and performance, but was only available in combination with the top equipment. The diesel fraction was limited to the 2.0 CDTI Ecotec, a four-cylinder with a displacement of 2.0 litres and an output of 150 hp. From 2010, the 2.4 Ecotec petrol engine produced 167 hp, a second diesel 2.2 CDTI 163 hp and 184 hp and the six-cylinder was discontinued. After the facelift, the basic versions were also available with front-wheel drive. In addition, customers could choose between a standard 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Antara has been under construction for a few years now and that's why Opel is now giving it a facelift. The modifications are limited, mainly the front has been pimped up a bit. There really isn't much that's new; the revised engine delivers 163 hp and 350 Nm of torque and gets the Antara moving fast enough not to have to shy away from overtaking manoeuvres. When it comes to consumption, it cannot set any highlights, 8.5 l/100 km are too much these days. There is a lack of fuel-saving measures such as automatic start-stop. But his running culture can convince. The chassis still lacks some fine-tuning when it comes to comfort, fortunately it's not as rough as its brother Chevrolet Captiva. Inside, the Opel offers the well-known size, there's enough space for four adults and their luggage. The navigation system is actually a symbol for the whole car: it's not bad, but technically it's quite a few years old, which you can see and notice when you operate it.
