For many years, the Model X was the only electric car that could tow a trailer. Even now it is still the leader in braked towing capacity among Tesla models. The towing capacity of the Tesla Model X is a whopping 2250kg / 2.25 tonne.
Since it is not possible to mount roof racks on the Tesla Model X due to the gullwing doors, Tesla has integrated the trailer hitch into the standard equipment of the vehicle. It is not yet known whether the new Model X Plaid will have a trailer hitch as standard or whether this is optional.
Can The Tesla Model X Tow a Caravan
Anyone who has ever crossed the Alps on foot or by bike loves the emotional rollercoaster between despair, exhaustion and pure happiness - and knows that the success of an Alpine Cross largely depends on stamina and route planning. With the exception of the factor of physical exhaustion, this adventure can also be experienced behind the wheel of a car. You only have to dare to take a Tesla Model X with a caravan. The Model X is not only the only electric car that is allowed to pull trailers, but also joins the combustion engines with a trailer load of 2250 kilos. As if that weren't unusual enough, the towing hitch is standard equipment. The plausible reason: the rear wing doors prevent the installation of a roof rack.We love the tow hitch out of the lower compartment of the rear boot (this location is necessary because the Tesla X also has a front trunk), nibble the cover out of the bumper and snap the ball head into place. The socket causes unexpected difficulties: it sits so deep and far to the right behind the bumper that you can only turn the plug a little while kneeling and forcefully pushing.
If you are looking for the towing capacity for a Tesla Model X then we're here to help. The towing capacity is a term used to describe the maximum weight of a trailer a Tesla Model X can tow. There may be certain models of Tesla Model X that cannot be used to tow a trailer. These will be highlighted with 'N KG' in the below list of Tesla Model X towing weights.
For those models of Tesla Model X where towing is allowed, we have detailed the Tesla Model X towing capacity for a braked trailer (this is when the trailer being towed has its own breaking system). To ensure you are both safe and legal it is really important that you check the Tesla Model X towing weight limit for the car.
As well as providing the braked towing capacity for your Tesla Model X, where data is available we also have also listed the Tesla Model X's unbraked towing capacity.
Here is a full list of the Unbraked and Braked Towing Capacity for the Tesla Model X. If you cannot find the Tesla you are looking for please drop us a email and we will add this to the list.
Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the towing weights provided on this website are accurate, we always recommend checking the vehicle log book (V5) for the official towing capacity. We accept no responsibility if the towing weights provided on this website are incorrect.

Is the Tesla Model X A Good Tow Car?
As the first electric SUV, the Model X set the bar high for potential rivals. Few can manage 5.05 meters in length and 2.00 meters in width. Only in terms of height is the model with its 1.68 meters pretty much in the middle. The BMW iX only manages to be 4.95 meters long, 1.97 meters wide and 1.70 meters high. The Mercedes-Benz EQC is even more compact. This is 4.76 meters long, 1.88 meters wide and 1.62 meters high. When it comes to a car, what's on the inside is more important than what's on the outside. After all, customers must feel comfortable, especially when driving. In terms of interior dimensions, the Model X is particularly spacious, with a headroom of 1.04 to 1.06 meters and an interior width of 1.44 to 1.54 meters.
With a width of 1.97 meters, the BMW is only 3 millimeters narrower than the Model X. The interior width of 1.57 meters at the front and 1.53 meters at the rear are on a similar level to the values โโof the Model X. The headroom should be the same BMW iX turn out similar, after all, the models are almost the same height.
In terms of permissible towing capacity with brakes, the Model X is above average. Only very few competitors manage 2,250 kilograms. The Mercedes EQC and the Audi e-tron Sportback weaken at 1,800 kilograms, but the BMW iX even manages 2,500 kilograms.
The company does not provide any precise information about the electricity consumption. Therefore, we have to be satisfied with the range at this point. 536 - 560 kilometers is not a little, it doesn't even need a comparison.
Tesla Model X drawbar load
With the Model X, the vertical load is 90kg, but this value is reduced to 54 kg with vertical loads such as bicycle racks. This low value usually only allows the transport of 2 bicycles on one bicycle carrier.According to a verbal statement from a Tesla Service Center in Hamburg, it is probably due to the fact that the maximum support load on a bicycle rack is always on the trailer hitch. With a trailer, the tensile load would probably be added to relieve it. Unfortunately, you have to accept that, since the 54kg are in the manual.
However, the vehicle registration shows a vertical load of 90kg for the Model X. This means that it is unlikely that you will have problems during an inspection. The vertical load of the new Model X Plaid is not yet known. However, one can assume that it will be similar to Model 3 and Y at 100kg.
