In 2019 the Koreans presented the Kia X Ceed for the first time. The four-wheel drive hatchback car is based on a conventional Ceed chassis, but the body of this model is completely original.
Is the Kia XCeed A Good Tow Car?
When it comes to the weight of the Kia XCeed, the crossover shows that an SUV doesn't have to be heavy. The lightest Kia XCeed weighs 1.3 tons, which is only a few kilograms more than the Ceed or the VW Golf. Depending on the equipment, the SUV weighs a maximum of 1.6 tons. Even the plug-in hybrid levels off at this value with its additional batteries. This moves the Kia XCeed in the dimensions of its class. The Mazda CX-30, for example, weighs at least 1.4 tons, the heaviest model 1.6 tons - also the hybrid. The VW T-Roc levels off between 1.3 and 1.6 tons. The only exception is the Audi Q3 Sportback, which is as heavy as it looks: the lightest model weighs 1.5 tons, the top model even weighs almost 1.8 tons. This gives the SUV from Ingolstadt advantages when it comes to towing a trailer. Unbraked, up to 750 kilograms are possible, braked a maximum of 2.2 tons. The Kia XCeed cannot keep up with 650 kilograms or 1.5 tons. Depending on the variant, even the smaller VW T-Roc pulls up to two tons behind it (unbraked: 640 to 750 kilograms).
How Much Can The Kia XCeed Tow?
Curb weight: 1,332kg to 1,586kgPermissible total weight: 1,820kg to 1,950kg
Permitted trailer load unbraked (max.): 600kg to 650kg
Permissible trailer load braked (max.): 1,200kg to 1,500kg
Nose Weight: 80kg
Kia offers the XCeed in two variants as a hybrid. On the one hand as a mild hybrid with 48 volts, in which an electric motor supports the diesel. The 1.6 CRDi delivers 136 hp. Furthermore, since 2020 a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) has been available, combining the petrol engine and electric unit. In contrast to the mild hybrid, this can be charged externally and achieves a single electric range of up to 58 kilometers.
