BMW i4 Towing Capacity & Weight

Gary White   Author: Gary White

With a length of 4.78 meters, the BMW i4 is not exactly a small car, but still pretty much in the dimensions of the middle class. The current 3 Series sedan, for example, is only seven centimeters shorter, the Audi A4 measures 4.76 meters. Both competitors are models with conventional engines. When it comes to sedans and coupés under Stromern, it should be clear who BMW is aiming for.

This superiority of the BMW i4, which is almost ten centimeters longer than the Tesla Model 3 and Polestar 2, becomes a disadvantage when maneuvering. The BMW i4 has a turning circle of 12.5 meters, the Polestar 2 only needs 11.5 meters, the Tesla Model 3 12.1 meters.

How Much Can a BMW i4 Tow?

The BMW i4 shows its advantages when it comes to towing capacity - for caravans, for example. Where many electric cars go wrong, the coupe can shine. Up to 1,600kg are far above the class average. Depending on the engine, the Polestar 2 weighs 1,000 to 1,500kg, the Tesla Model 3 only 1,000kg.

If you are looking for the towing capacity for a BMW i4 car then we're here to help. The towing capacity is a term used to describe the maximum weight of a trailer a BMW i4 car can tow. There may be certain models of BMW i4 car that cannot be used to tow a trailer. These will be highlighted with 'N KG' in the below list of BMW i4 towing weights.

For those models of BMW i4 where towing is allowed, we have detailed the BMW i4 towing capacity for a braked trailer (this is when the trailer being towed has its own breaking system). To ensure you are both safe and legal it is really important that you check the BMW i4 towing weight limit for the car.

As well as providing the braked towing capacity for your BMW i4, where data is available we also have also listed the BMW i4's unbraked towing capacity.

With its 83.9 kWh battery, the BMW i4 has a range advantage. The electric coupe comes up to 590 kilometers without charging, in the M version it is still 521 kilometers - but only in the city. The lower and more realistic range in the combined WLTP cycle is 493 kilometers for the eDrive 40 and 416 kilometers for the i4 M50. The Polestar 2 on BMW is not missing much, depending on which engine customers choose. The Standard Range Single Motor can cover 440 kilometers, the Long Range Dual Motor 480 kilometers. The Long Range Single Motor goes the furthest with a maximum range of 540 kilometers.

The more batteries that the BMW i4 carries means that the coupe is not exactly a lightweight. All engines and configurations are over two tons, the i4 is a maximum of 2.3 tons. For comparison: the 4-series coupé with conventional engines that is still available weighs between 1.6 and 1.9 tons.

Among the electric cars, the BMW i4 is not that bad. The Polestar 2 is also between 1.9 and 2.1 tons. The Tesla Model 3, on the other hand, is significantly lighter. It weighs only 1.6 to 1.8 tons.
